The chief executive of Jamiat-e-Islami Ata Mohammad Noor has asked his supporters to stand against the decision of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani as the Presidential Palace on Monday announced that the resignation of Balkh governor has been approved by the president.

Speaking to his supporters in reaction to the government’s announcement, Noor said he has not resigned and has no intention to step down from his post as the governor of Balkh.

Noor further added that the resignation letter was only presented to President Ghani during his negotiations months ago as the president was saying that he is trusting that Noor will step down if his demands are met.

In the meantime, Noor called on his supporters to stand against the move by adopting a peaceful uprising in accordance with the laws of the country.

However, he warned that he and his supporters are prepared to adopt other options if the government decides to use force.

The Jamiat-e-Islami led by acting foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani also condemned the decision of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani regarding the acceptance of Balkh governor Ata Mohammad Noor’s resignatin.

The party in a statement said the decision regarding Balkh governor’s resignation has been taken hastily and called it a irresponsible move and against the stability and current sitaution of the country.

The statement further added that Jamiat-e-Islami strongly condemns the decision and calls it a move against the principles of the agreement of the government of national unity.
