No institution, including the Supreme Court and the Attorney General’s office are allowed to interfere in the parliamentary election, the IEC said

Officials in the Independent Election Commission (IEC) said according to Afghanistan’s laws, no governmental and non-governmental organisation, except the IEC and the Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) are allowed to interfere in the works of Afghanistan’s parliamentary elections.

The Afghan Attorney General office claims that it has received complaints that the 1.3 million votes of the Afghan parliamentary elections counted as invalid by the IEC have been along with corruption.

“There are some reports of corruption claiming that genuine votes of some candidates have been announced invalid and we want to appoint a representative to investigate the issue,” Deputy Attorney General, Rahmatullah Nazari, told TOLOnews reporter.

“According to the laws of Afghanistan, the electoral issues are only related to the IEC and ECC institutions and no other organisation in Afghanistan is allowed to interfere in this issue,” a spokesman for the IEC, Noor Mohammad Noor, told TOLOnews reporter.

The Afghan parliamentary elections were held on Sept. 18th and the results were planned to be announced by early this month, but there are no reports about the announcement of the election
