New Zealand military forces in Afghanistan left the country, after lowering their flag after 20 years of deployment.
New Zealand Defense News reported that more than 3,500 military personnel served under ISAF, and Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan and it has been NZDF’s longest military deployment abroad.
According to reports New Zealand has lost 10 defense force members in Afghanistan.
A Senior National Officer for the final contingent told NZDF Defense news, that its six personnel made a significant contribution, he added, that “while small in number, we had sizeable tasks ahead of us when we first arrived in Afghanistan last year. When we lowered the New Zealand flag, we were all quite proud to be the last Kiwis to represent our country in Afghanistan,”
Colonel Bagley was stationed in NATO-led Resolute Support HQ in Kabul, he was tasked to plan, liaison, and prepare the transition of security, camps, bases, and set conditions for change in the footprint of coalition forces according to the Afghan peace process.
A total of Three NZDF military personnel supported United Kingdom-let mentoring for the ANA officers’ academy (ANAOA), over time their role change from training soldiers to mentoring Afghan trainers.
