Afghan Security Forces formed a new unit comprised of the Afghan army, Afghan police, and the National Directorate of security.

This united is expected to act when it is informed about any movement militants make, Massoud Andarabi told the Parliament members.

He described, the new unit is currently in a trial phase and during the summers its activities will increase and expand.

Andarabi indicated the new unit is active only in Farah province, he added that Taliban attacks were rebuffed in Kandahar and Helmand in recent months.

Security assessments show the situation in Kandahar has improved and that the Taliban are preparing for a full-scale campaign for the next year, Interior Minister said.

He added, that the Taliban initiated targeted attacks to create attention in the media and reduce the public’s trust in the government.

NDS Chief Zia Saraj said the Taliban have not cut their ties with foreign terrorists and have not reduced violence in the country, adding that the group has raged their attacks on civil society activists and journalists.

Saraj said security members arrested some suspects in relation to five of the eight attacks, and that three attacks on the journalists have been prevented.
