New details emerge regarding the assassination of Afghan governor

Rahmatullah NabeelThe parliament of Afghanistan on Tuesday summoned Afghan intelligence – national directorate of security (NDS) chief, Rahmatullah Nabeel along with the Afghan interior affairs minister Mohmmad Omar Daudzai regarding the assassination of Logar provincial governor.

NDS chief, Rahmatullah Nabeel told Afghan lawmakers that the explosives were planted inside the piece of Quran, and investigation reports suggest that the Quran was placed on the left side of the table where Logar governor was delivering speech.

Mr. Nabeel further added that the piece of Quran was taken inside the mosque after it was properly checked by Afghan security forces.

He said Afghan security forces did not prevent the transfer of Quran inside the mosque, and Afghan security forces had discovered two rounds of mortar from the mosque a day before Logar governor was assassinated.

Nabil also added that three intelligence officials have been suspended along with eight NDS service members due the assassination of Logar governor, Arsala Jamal.

In the meantime interior minister, Omar Daudzai said that the incident in Logar province took place due to security vacuum in Afghan security institutions.

Mr. Daudzai further added that Logar incident reflects various shortages and weakness of the Afghan security institutions, and necessary steps have been taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

NDS chief, Rahmatullah Nabeel also warned that terrorist groups are acquiring new tactics to disturb the upcoming elections in Afghanistan.

He said that terrorist groups are following a number of main targets in Afghanistan this year, including disturbing the elections and Taliban militants are looking to use magnetic bombs since they are easily planted in vehicles.

Nabil also said that Taliban group will plant explosives in computers, mobile phones and other electronic equipments to carry out attacks.
