Sunday, August 28, 2011 – According to a senior official in Afghan intelligence agency, National Directorate for Security, Afghanistan’s neighboring countries and their intelligence agencies are making efforts to increase insecurity in the regions that have recently been handed over to Afghan security forces.

This comes as officials in the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said, 15 insurgents, including two Pakistani citizens have been arrested over the past week.

The officials in National Directorate for Security further added, the two Pakistani citizens were appointed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence to carry out insurgent attacks in Afghanistan.

The officials also said, they believe the two Pakistani citizens had a key role in some of the deadliest insurgent attacks that shook the capital Kabul.

Lotfullah Mashal, Afghan National Directorate for Security spokesman said, “They have confessed during the investigations that they were attracted by a person named Hossain Ali, working at the level of a manager in ISI, and they were assigned to destroy Afghanistan’s big establishments, including long bridges and power dams and government institutions.”

Mr. Mashal further added, Afghan security forces, last week, arrested a group of militants including their operation chiefs in western Herat province.

Meanwhile, a video tape from Intercontinental Hotel’s surveillance camera that captured the deadly overnight intercontinental attack showed that the assailants were receiving instructions by phone from their leaders in Pakistan.

Afghan officials blame Haqqani insurgent network is responsible for most of the deadliest attacks in Afghanistan.

The Haqqani network is active in the lawless tribal areas of Pakistan.

  1. I am not pleased with the formulation “neighboring countries”, when the problem is located in Pakistan. For everything else at least this article lacks any proof.
