NATO soldier killed in insider attack in southern Afghanistan

NATO and Afghan soldierA NATO soldier was killed following an insider attack in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday.

NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said, “An International Security Assistance Force service member died when an individual wearing an Afghan National Security Force uniform fired his weapon at ISAF individuals in southern Afghanistan today.”

The statement further added, “Afghan National Security Forces have secured the scene at this time. ANSF and ISAF forces are conducting an investigation, and more details will be released as appropriate.”

The exact location of the incident and nationality of the deceased soldier was not disclosed in the statement by saying, “It is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities.”

This comes as earlier reports suggest at least three Czech troops were injured following an insider attack in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan.

However provincial governor spokesman Jawid Faisal said that three American soldiers were injured after an Afghan soldier opened fire on his comrades following a verbal clash.

He said the incident took place on Tuesday morning in Kandahar airfield.

In the meantime the Slovak Defence Minister Martin Glváč confirmed lovak soldier was killed at the Kandahar airfield in Afghanistan, with another two Slovaks suffering serious injuries and four others sustaining light injuries.
