According to local authorities in southern Kandahar province, at least 7 Afghan civilians were killed following a NATO oil tanker explosion in this province.
The officials further added, the civilians were killed while they were inside a vehicle and were passing by the oil tanker which exploded.
The main reason behind the NATO oil tanker explosion is not know yet. However Taliban militants have claimed responsibility behind the incident and said the NATO oil tanker was destroyed following a missile attack by one of the
Taliban fighters.
But local security officials denied insurgents involved behind the incident.
The incident took place at Panjwai district of southern Kandahar province which is considered to be one of the volatile regions in this province.
Panjwai district police chief Sarda Mohammad said, at least 2 women were among those killed during the incident and at least 3 others were injured during the explosion.
According to provincial health officials, the health condition of the invididuals injured during the incident are critical.
Taliban militants and other insurgents groups in Afghanistan frequenty attack supply convoys carrying fuel and other requirements of NATO troops in Afghanistan.
In the latest wave of insurgency attack at least four security guards of a private corporation “Supreme” which is providing fuel for NATO troops were killed and four others were injured on Thursday.
According to local officials in southern Kandahar province, the incident took place after a motorcycle packed with explosives went off, killing and injuring Supreme security guards.
