Afghan defense minister visits PakitanThe annual funding of the Afghan national security forces beyond 2014 has been increased from $4.1 billion to $5.1 billion, defense officials said.

Afghan defense minister, Bismillah Khan Mohammadi has said the decision to increase the funding of the Afghan forces was announced during the NATO summit in Wales.

Mohammadi told reporters that the latest commitment was made by the US President Barack Obama.

The NATO Secretary General, Anders Fog Rasmussen also renewed continued support to Afghanistan and said NATO remains committed to fund Afghan national security forces until 2017.

Afghan officials had earlier said that Afghanistan will demand the international community to increase the funding of the Afghan security forces during the NATO summit in Wales.

The officials had said the previously committed $4.1 billion was considered for 238,000 Afghan forces. However, more funding was needed as the number of Afghan forces has increased to 352,000 personnel.
