The NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission commander General John F. Campbell greeted the Afghan people on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha.
Gen. Campbell issued the following statement as the Afghan people celebrate Eid:
“To the noble people of Afghanistan and all Muslims around the world, Happy Eid-al-adha. Eid Mubarak. May this year’s Eid-al-Adha bring peace in your life.
Eid days are meant to celebrate the goals and achievements that make you proudest and the ideals you believe in. It’s a day to rejoice in your blessings and to reflect and ponder. It’s a holiday to unite together. Eid Mubarak.”
Eid al-Adha is celebrated on 10th Dul Hijjah every year which marks the end of hajj, a religious pilgrimage undertaken by millions of Muslims each year.
Based on moon’s movements, most Muslims communities rely on eye-sighting of the crescent to mark the start of the months as per the Islamic calendar although at times the practice could prove difficult.
