Wednesday, August 10, 2011 – According to reports, Nato and Russia are working on an agreement to expand the current supply route of troops through Russian soil.

Officials and Diplomats quoted by Associated Press and speaking on basis of anonymity said, Nato would be allowed to ferry military equipment through Russia to Afghanistan and back to Europe under the new agreement.

Currently, NATO-led International Forces receives bulk of its supplies through Pakistan, but its supplies are often destroyed by insurgents active in border line before getting into Afghanistan.

This comes as earlier Russia agreed to permit the alliance to transport its supplies using Russian routes, but no lethal supplies were allowed to be supplied to troops through the route.

The agreement will also allow NATO forces to transport weapons and ammunitions through the Russian soil.

International troops have already begun to leave Afghanistan this year with the United States to pull out 33,000 troops out of the country by the end of next year.
