NATO airstrike leaves 45 Taliban dead in Helmand province

NATO airstrike kill 45 Taliban in HelmandAt least 45 Taliban militants were killed following an airstrike by NATO-led International coalition security forces in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan.

According to a statement released by Hemand provincial government media department, the militants were killed in Deshu and Khanshin districts of Helmand province.

The statement further added that the militants had just returned after carrying out an offensive in Chahar Bolok district of Nimroz province, when they were targeted by NATO airstrike.

NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)  officials said, “We are aware of the release sent out by Helmand’s Provincial Media Office. The information in the release is based on local Afghan civilian reports.”

ISAF said, “There were no precision strikes in Helmand province on July 26. We can confirm however, a precision strike in Chahar Burjak district, Nimroz province July 24 in which eight enemies of Afghanistan were killed. In conjunction with this event, Coalition ground forces were engaged by enemies of Afghanistan. Coalition forces returned fire killing nine.”
