Immigration News

According to local authorities in eastern Laghman province of Afghanistan, at least 8 Afghan civilians were killed following a NATO airstrike in this province.

The officials further added at least 5 others were also injured following the incident.

Provincial governor spokesman Sarhadi Zwak confirming the report said the incident took place late Saturday night in Noorlam area at Alingar district.

NATO-led International Security Assistance Force yet to comment regarding the report.

This comes as NATO officials in Afghanistan last week announced civilians casualties as a result of the NATO operation and airstrikes have reduced by 53% in 2012.

Roger Noble, deputy commander for NATO operations in Afghanistan on Thursday said the statistics during the first 9 months of 2012 shows a reducation as compared to similar period in 2011.

Civilians casualties have been one of the controversial issues between the Afghan government and coalition security forces during the recent years which had negative impacts over president Karzai’s relations with the coalition officials in the country.
