A Taliban spokesperson for the Taliban announced on Sunday that their representative will attend the upcoming UN-hosted conference on Afghanistan in Doha, Qatar.

Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed in an interview with the media that representatives of the group will participate in the third Doha meeting.

Mr. Mujahid stated that the delegation’s composition representing the group in Doha will be announced soon.

“A representative of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan will participate in the upcoming Doha meeting and will represent the people and the government of Afghanistan,” he said.

The third Doha meeting, hosted by the United Nations, is scheduled to take place on the 30th of June and 1st of July, with special representatives of countries regarding Afghanistan.

Zabihullah Mujahid mentioned that the Taliban have discussed the agenda of the meeting with the United Nations and have deemed it beneficial for Afghanistan.

Previously, the Taliban had set certain conditions for participating in the third Doha meeting.

The conditions included setting a preferred agenda for the Taliban, allocating Afghanistan’s seat at the United Nations to the group, and not inviting members of civil society.

The Taliban also requested the United Nations to refrain from appointing a new special representative for Afghanistan.

It is still unclear to what extent the United Nations has accepted the Taliban’s conditions.
