Monday, 04 July – According to Pakistani security officials, at least four Pakistanis including two children were wounded following mortar attacks on a village near the Pak-Afghan border from Afghanistan.
Tensions have raised between the two countries over the alleged series of cross-border attacks.
Pakistani officials said, mortar shells fired from Afghanistan hit Bangedar village in the Ghulam Khan district in North Waziristan.
According to Mohammad Khan, a local government official, “The mortars were fired early this morning from an Afghan border post in Khost province.”
Meanwhile, medical officials at the main hospital in Miranshah said that at least one of injured person is in a critical condition.
The source further added, two other children have also wounded as a result of mortar attacks.
On the other hand, around 200 Afghans protested against the Pakistan rocket attacks in Kabul early Saturday.
Officials said that dozens of people have been killed and injured as a result of Pakistani missile and artillery attacks.
During a meeting with the Pakistani officials including army chief General Ashfaq Kayani in capital Kabul, Afghan president Hamid Karzai demanded an end to the attacks.
Pakistani officials frequently denies artillery attacks by its forces and says that its forces may have fired a few accidental rounds into Afghanistan while pursuing militants across the porous 2,400 kilometre border.
There are strongholds and safe havens for the militant insurgents on both sides of the border who are frequently planning and carrying out attacks against Afghan and NATO-led international forces in Afghanistan.
Afghan and US officials have urged Pakistan to take serious steps to eradicate militant sanctuaries in its semi-autonomous tribal belt.
