KABUL, Afghanistan – Mohammad Masoud Andrabi, Acting Minister of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, during his visit to Police District 5 of Afghan capital Kabul gave “shoot” order to local police, amid response to growing criminal offenses throughout the city.
He called on local police to shoot at criminals and gunmen, with whom they may have faced conflict, in accordance with the law.
The Acting Minister exclaimed if anyone complains about police firing at criminals, the Interior Ministry will take action, dealing with complaints.
The order came at a time, the Afghan capital is struggling with growing number of armed robberies, roadside mine explosions, and target killings, which triggered widespread concern among residents.
During the past few months, about 800 people were arrested on similar charges, according to MoIA figures.
