The Ministry of Defense (MoD) officials confirm that the clashes continue between the Afghan armed forces the Taliban insurgents in the outskirts of Farah city.

MoD spokesman Gen. Mohamamd Radmanish said the clashes continue in the West and North of the city, almost 3 kilometers away from the center of the city.

Gen. Radmanish further added that additional forces have been deployed to further push the militants away from the outskirts of the city.

He said the security and defense officials predict that the situation will be brought under the control until evening as he admitted that a large number of militants have taken part in the attack.

According to Gen. Radmanish, scores of militants have also joined the Taliban from the other parts of the country and the neighboring provinces.

Gen. Radmanish confirmed that at least ten militants have been killed during the clashes so far although the exact number could not be confirmed.

The Ministry of Interior spokesman Najib Danish confirmed that additional forces have been deployed in the area including special forces to combat the militants.

Danish rejected the reports suggesting that the police chief of the police district#3 of the city has been killed during the clashes.

He said the militants had managed to get closer to certain government compounds including the intelligence directorate but added that the situation will be controlled by the evening.
