rocket attack in Farah provinceAccording to reports militants have fired at least two rockets on a gathering attended by Afghan president Hamid Karzai in western Farah province of Afghanistan.

A local security official speaking on the condition of anonymity said the incident took place while president Karzai was meeting with the families of the victims who were killed or injured during a deadly attack last Wednesday in this province.

The official further added that the missiles landed around 2kms away from the gathering and there are no reports regarding casualties as a result of the incident.

In the meantime provincial governor spokesman Abdul Rahman Zhwandai said president Karzai arrived in Farah province to meet with the families of the victims who were killed in an attack on provincial court last week.

He said president Karzai strongly condemned the attack and called on security institutions to take necessary actions in order to find and arrest those involved behind the incident.

A local security official said the missiles were fired from the western part of Farah city and no one was killed or injured following the incident.

However provincial governor spokesman Abdul Rahman Zhwandai denied the reports regarding missile attack on the gathering and said that Afghan security forces were on high alert to prevent any security issues during president Karzai’s visits.

At least 56 people were killed and over 100 others were injured after a group of Taliban suicide bombers attacked provincial court in Farah province last Wednesday.
