The Ministry of defense in a released statement on Thursday said at least 31 Taliban fighters were killed in five districts of Kandahar province.

MoD stated, that the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces backed by air support launched offensive operations in Arghandab, Zherai, Shahwalikot, and Maiwand districts of Kandahar province.

The operations resulted in 31 Taliban militants killed and further 19 others were reported wounded.

Some of weapons and ammunition belonging to the Taliban were also destroyed.

The Ministry of Defense also stated, that ANA’s engineering team discovered and defused 69 landmines planted by the Taliban insurgents.

The Taliban have not yet commented in this regards.

This comes as the Ministry of Defense said Wednesday that 229 Afghan Air Force officers from the 777 Mission Wing graduated from advanced military training.

General Yasin Zia, Chief of Army Staff and acting Minister of Defense, and several other senior officers also attended the ceremony to honor the graduates, according to MoD.

MoD indicated that another achievement is that the graduated AAF officers were trained by Afghan instructors.

Afghan Airforce has developed further in terms of combat and technical capabilities, the Ministry of Defense said in a tweet.

The newly graduated officers can independently plan and execute all matters related to Air Force operations, including combat missions, resupplying ground troops, and casualty evacuations.
