Thursday, August 11, 2011 – According to NATO-led coalition forces officials, at least 11 of Taliban militants responsible for shooting down a US helicopter carrying Navy Seal Team were killed.
The helicopter crash last week was the deadliest American loss on single day since the Afghan War began.
At least 38 US military personnel including eight Afghan commandos were killed following a Chinook helicopter crash.
The crash took place in Tangi valley in Maidan Wardak province
According to reports, International forces reportedly acted on intelligence about those members of the Taliban who shot down the Chinook helicopter on Saturday.
On the night of the crash, the US military was conducting an operation against insurgents in Mohibullah’s Taliban cell.
According to NATO officials, Mullah Mohibullah and 10 others that were responsible for the helicopter crash have been killed by forces.
According to a statement issued by NATO-led coalition forces, “After an exhaustive manhunt, Special Operations forces located Mullah Mohibullah and the shooter after receiving multiple intelligence leads and tips from local citizens.”
Meanwhile, the US military had earlier begun investigation to find out what really caused the downing of US helicopter in Afghanistan.
Still there are some unanswered questions about the crash and investigators have been assigned to determine why the troops were called in to assist other US soldiers engaged in a firefight, what the situation on the ground was and what role flight route or altitude had in the crash.
Details of the investigation would not be disclosed by the US Defence department. The probe would also cover insurgent threat and instructions given to the special operations forces that crammed into Chinook copter.
