Militants abduct 40 residents of Nangarhar province

Afghan TalibanAnti-government armed militants abducted nearly 40 residents of Goshta and Lalpur districts in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

According to local government officials, the residents were charged for supporting the government of Afghanistan by the anti-government armed militants.

Provincial governor spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, confirmed militants abducted nearly 40 residents of Goshta and Lalpur districts.

Abdulzai further added that 15 abducted residents of Goshta and Lalpur districts were released.

However, local tribal elders deny the release of abducted Goshta and Lalpur districts and said they are still being held as hostage by the militants.

In the meantime, Abdulzai said 15 residents were released and around 20 others are still held as hostage.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban militants have not commented regarding the report so far.

Nangarhar is among the volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating in its various districts.
