Lionel Messi scored his first Ligue 1 goal as Paris Saint Germain opened a 12-point lead at the top despite playing almost half an hour with 10 men.

PSG, last night, played Nantes in matchday 14 of Ligue 1 and won 3-1 at Parc Des Prince.

Messi scored with a curled left-footer from outside the box three minutes from time, adding to Dennis Appiah’s own goal.

Messi, 34, now has four goals to his name for the Parisians, having scored three times in the Champions League and one in Ligue 1 since his move from Barcelona.

“I’m happy. We had a lot of chances, but their goalkeeper made some good saves. But we weren’t afraid and we ended up winning,” Messi said to Amazon Prime.

“I am happy to score this first goal, at the Parc des Princes, in front of the fans.

“Even though I had already scored in the Champions League, I expected to score in the league.”

The Messi side plays Manchester City on Champion Ligue fixture on Wednesday night at Etihad Stadium.
