Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum took the lead last night in Faryab province due to the fierce fighting between Afghan security forces and the Taliban over the past few days.
Faryab police spokesman, Abdul Kabir Yoresh told Khaama Press. that Marshal Dostum took the lead in the fighting, following insurgents’ attack on Qamarqul district of Faryab province on Tuesday night, killing the district’s acting provincial police chief “Safar Raees” and four of his bodyguards.
He added that after the district’s police chief was killed, upon the information General Dostum took the initiative and personally engaged the resilience against Taliban attack, he is reported to have taken part in the battlefield.
According to the spokesman, the police chief was one of the former commanders of Marshal Dostum.
Yoresh also indicated, heavy casualties were inflicted to Taliban militants.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
