Mansur Faqiryar to set up professional football club in Afghanistan

Mansur FaqiryarThe Afghan goalkeeper, Mansur Faqiryar, who was recently elected to receive the North Athlete of the Year Award in Germany, is looking to set up a football club in Afghanistan.

Faqiryar, who is currently a university student in Germany, says the set up of the football club will be in accordance with the European football clubs, in a bid to provide professional training to children and youths who are interested in football.

Though Faqiryar does not have the financial capability to set up the football club in Afghanistan, however he said that certain people are prepared to support him in the making of the football club.

Faqiryar is routinely visiting Afghanistan as the Afghan national football team is preparing to participate in Challenge Cup in Maldives in the near future, which is decisive for the Afghan football team’s qualification in Asia Cup 2015.

He also added that the future of the Afghan football team is bright, and they are confident that the Afghan team will make progress and will have more achievements, similar as they won the South Asia Football Federation (SAFF) championship.

Faqiryar is currently playing for VfB Oldenburg football club, which is among the top football clubs in Germany.

He received the highest vote to receive the North Athlete of the Year Award in Germany, based on a poll conducted by Germany’s NDR Television Network.

Faqiryar was nominated for the award for his outstanding performance in VfB Oldenburg football division, and his performance for the Afghan national football team during the South Asia Football Federation (SAFF) championship.
