Taliban forces in Herat Province, in western Afghanistan, have arrested a man for attempting to sell his mother for a sum of 450,000 Afghanis.
A man who attempted to sell his mother together with two accomplices was arrested, according to the Taliban Heart Police Office.
According to Taliban local officials, the man and the accomplices were arrested from Herat province’s Mir Dawood Gate on Thursday.
According to the update from the Herat Police, these individuals have confessed to their misdeeds and are being investigated. Concerning the reason behind this woman’s sale, however, nothing has been said.
Earlier, local sources in the province of Faryab, in northern Afghanistan, said that a drug addict had sold his wife.
As the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan, reports of family members, including daughters, wives, and parents, selling their children out of desperation to survive increased.
Without mentioning the deterioration of women’s rights or the “worst humanitarian crisis on Earth,” Afghanistan is currently facing the height of hunger, starvation, despair, unemployment, and poverty.
The Taliban also dissolved the two institutions addressing the violence against women, the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, which coped with forced marriages and underage marriages.
