Lionel Messi has once again clinched the prestigious ‘FIFA Best Player award for the eighth time, solidifying his position as one of the greatest footballers in history. In a tough competition, the Argentine outshone formidable rivals Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe to claim this honour. Notably, neither Messi, Haaland, nor Mbappe attended the awards ceremony.
The award ceremony took place on Monday night, January 15, as part of the presentation of the Best of 2023 awards, where Messi was honoured.
Messi managed to win the FIFA Best Player of 2023 award by surpassing two other great stars, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé.
This achievement comes even though this highly popular football star had already been crowned the World’s Best Player in 2022, following his victory in the Qatar World Cup.
He is the only player to have won the Ballon d’Or eight times and the European Golden Shoe six times. Throughout his professional career, he has scored over 800 goals and provided 350 assists for both his club and his national team.
Messi holds the record for the most goals (672) by a player at Barcelona.
His exceptional skills and achievements have made him a legendary figure in the world of football.
