The local Taliban authorities in Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan said that a landslide wreaked havoc in the province’s Maimay district with at least one person confirmed dead.
The Head of Information and Culture of the Taliban government in Badakhshan province, Moizuddin Ahmadi, said that the natural catastrophe took place in a village in the Maimay district of Badakhshan on Saturday, November 5.
According to Ahmadi, after the landslide affected the province, one person has been injured, two people are still missing, and one body has already been discovered.
According to Ahmadi, who was quoted by the Taliban-run Bakhtar state news agency, the landslide in Badakhshan province has damaged dozens of acres of farmland, gardens, and several stores.
Bakhtar reported that given the deterioration of the roads in the district, the rescue teams could not reach the remote affected site, citing the Taliban official.
One of the earthquake-prone areas is the province of Badakhshan, where occasionally both earthquakes and landslides cause damage and losses.
