provincial council candidate executed in Sar-e-PulThe Taliban militants group killed a provincial council candidate along with nine other civilians in northern Sar-e-Pul province of Afghanistan, local security officials said.

The provincial council candidate, Hussain Nazari was abducted by the Taliban militants from Jawzjan-Sar-e-Pul highway two days back.

Provincial security chief, Noor Habib Gul Bahar confirmed that the provincial council candidate Hussain Nazari was executed by Taliban militants.

Mr. Gul Bahar further added that nine other civilians who were kidnapped by Taliban were also executed.

Nazari was contesting for provincial council seat from Balkhab district. He was  returning from Suzma Qala district on Sunday when he was abducted by Taliban militants.

Sar-e-Pul is among the relatively peaceful provinces in northern Afghanistan; however the anti-government armed militants have recently increased their insurgency activities in a number of its districts.

A local tribal elder Haji Mohammad Yaseen, who was believed to be Dr. Abdullah’s electoral campaigner was also killed by militants in Kohistanat district earlier last month.
