The U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad has reacted to recent Taliban attack against the U.S. forces near Bagram airbase which left three U.S. soldiers dead.
“I’m deeply saddened by the death of American service members yesterday in Afghanistan. They made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. We salute their patriotism. And we condemn the perpetrators in the strongest terms possible,” Ambassador Khalilzad said in a Twitter post.
He said “ The best way to honor our fallen heroes and their families is to make sure those responsible are brought to justice, and to end the Afghan war with a peace agreement that ensures Afghanistan is never again a threat to the US while dramatically reducing our burden.”
“Three U.S. service members were killed, and three U.S. service members were wounded by an improvised explosive device April 8 near Bagram Air Base,” the NATO-led Resolute Support mission said in a statement.
The statement further added that the wounded service members were evacuated and are receiving medical care.
The Taliban militants group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
