The U.S. envoy for Afghan peace Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad reacted to the latest Taliban attack on Kunduz city which was carried out amid ongoing peace talks in Qatar.
Ambassador Khalilzad said in a Twitter post “I raised the Kunduz attack in talks today, telling the Taliban that violence like this must stop. In addition, General Miller visited Kunduz today and is focused on assisting Afghan forces defend the city.”
He also added “Ultimately, war will only end when all sides agree it must end. All Afghans must come together in intra-Afghan negotiations to achieve a political settlement & comprehensive ceasefire.”
Furthermore, Ambassador Khalilzad said “I am confident we are on the only practical path to reducing violence & achieving peace.”
This comes as the Taliban militants launched coordinated attack on Kunduz city in the early hours of Saturday morning.
