
Renowned Afghan-American novelist, author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini has announced that his daughter Haris came out as transgender yesterday.
Writer Khaled Hussaini wrote an emotionally loaded note regarding his daughter’s transition into a transgender person. As a father, Khalid Hussaini writes that he has never felt so proud of his daughter.
He wrote that Haris, his daughter, had taught his family an important lesson about “truth” and “bravery”.
She went through a difficult journey, but Khaled Hosseini said she is “strong and undaunted.”
Hosseini was born in 1965 in Kabul, Afghanistan. His mother taught school, and his father served as a diplomat. He now lives in California, US with his two children.
He has written the books A Thousand Splendid Suns, And the Mountains Echoed, and The Kite Runner.
