Security sources say to have killed nine Taliban insurgents in southern Kapisa province in clearance operations last night.
Police chief of Kapisa says the ones killed included a so-called district governor of Ala Sai and another insurgent commander who was managing terrorist attacks in the district.
Khwaja Faqir Ahmad Sediqi, Kapisa’s police chief says killing of these key insurgent commanders is a setback to the Taliban in the district of Ala Sai.
The operations were conducted in the Dara-e-Ishkin area of Ala Sai district.
Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) has stepped up operations across the country ahead of an announced end of the NATO combat mission in Afghanistan.
NATO has announce to end its combat mission in Afghanistan at the end of 2014 after which all combat missions will be conducted by ANSF and NATO will only train and support the ANSF.
