The 209th Shaheen Corps in a statement said Monday that Takhtemesh, a key commander of Aman Group of Taliban defected to armed forces in Almar district of Faryab province.

The statement further added that Takhtemesh was previously involved in terrorist-related activities under the commander of Aman, one of the most prominent leaders of Taliban in Faryab.

The anti-government armed militants including Taliban have not commented regarding the airstrike so far.

Faryab is among the relatively volatile provinces in North of Afghanistan.

Taliban militants are active in some of the restive districts of the province where they often attempt to carry out terrorist related activities against the government and security institutions.
