A key member of Hezb-e-Islami led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar has escaped an assassination attempt in Kabul city, the party claimed.
A spokesman for the party Qarib-ur-Rehman Sayed said the attempt to assassinate Qazi Amin Waqad failed in Kabul city on Tuesday.
He said Qazi was on his way towards his residence after meeting the party’s leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar when a group of suspected individuals riding motorcycles attempted to carry out an attack on Qazi Waqad.
According to Sayed, Qazi Waqad and his security personnel escaped the attack unhurt and there were no fatalities in the attack.
The security officials and institutions in Kabul have not commented regarding the incident so far.
No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility behind the attack so far.
Qazi Waqad is a senior member of Hezb-e-Islami party led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and the latest attempt on his life comes as the party has recently adopted a very strict stance against the militant groups in the country, specifically the Taliban insurgents.
The party on Tuesday slammed the group for the destruction of Bamiyan Buddhas and blamed the group for the recent wave of violence against Muslims in Burma, linking the destruction of Buddhas to the violence as the party believes that the violence has further soared to avenge the destruction of the Budddhas.
