According to reports, Afghan president Hamid Karzai’s elder brother Abdul Qayoum Karzai has recently met with the Taliban group representatives in an informal meeting along with the Afghan high peace council officials.
The meeting reportedly took place in Dubai in a bid to discuss how to revive the stalled peace process, which was suspended both by the Afghan government and Taliban group following a controversy over the opening of Taliban office in Qatar.
A Taliban official said that the meeting was attended by the head of the secretariat of the Afghan high peace council, Masoom Stanekzai and Sher Abbas Stabnekzai.
The official speaking on the condition of anonymity said that the delegation of the Afghan high peace council was sent by president Hamid Karzai to convince Taliban for peace talks.
Without providing further details regarding the meeting, the Taliban official said that Karzai’s brother Abdul Qayoum Karzai was a more agreeable person to interact with rather than Hamid Karzai.
This comes as Afghan president Hamid Karzai on the first day of Eid urged the Taliban group to join peace process and stop further violence and insurgency.
