Karzai postpones Sri Lanka trip over killing of Afghan soldiers in Kunar

 BhNye0yCYAAWFweAfghan president Hamid Karzai strongly condemned the attack on Afghan national army outposts in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan.

Presidential palace media office following a statement said, “President Karzai condemns the terrorist attack in the strongest possible terms and praised the brave soldiers who lost their lives defending and protecting their country’s national honors.”

The statement further added, “The attack to target Afghan army posts comes a few days after a statement released by Pakistan government said that 23 of its soldiers were killed by Pakistani Taliban.”

President Karzai stressed that such attacks to target civilians and non-civilians on both sides of the Durand line is of a major source of shared concern and requires a serious consideration, the statement by presidential palace added

President Karzai who postponed his visit to Sri Lanka due to the death tragedy, once again called on the government of Pakistan to earnestly and sincerely cooperate with a strong will with Afghanistan and to take serious and effective measures in eliminating the terrorist sanctuaries that have continued to pose a grave and serious threat to both the countries.

Karzai also has instructed the Minister of National Defense to immediately launch a thorough investigation into the incident.

At least 20 Afghan national army soldiers were killed and 6 others were abducted after a group of Taliban militants attacked the army outposts in Ghaziabad district early Sunday morning.

Taliban militants group claimed responsibility behind the incident and said around 35 Afghan army soldiers were killed in the attack.
