Former president Hamid Karzai in Tuesday’s press conference said that the Afghan people are in desperate need of peace and asked the warring sides in Afghanistan to seize the opportunity created for peace.

Karzai called the ongoing war a foreign plot that can be destroyed only through peace.

He emphasized that the ongoing war between the Afghan government and the Taliban is not a war of the Afghans but an imposed one which can solely be wound up by reconciliation.

The former president particularly addressed the Taliban saying, “you will achieve nothing by seizing districts, shun violence, and embrace peace.”

On the other hand, Hamid Karzai asked the Afghan government to utilize the current opportunity of peace and strive for the creation of a national and inclusive government.

He also expressed hope for an imminent peace and added that the ongoing misery will end in a matter of months and the people of Afghanistan will taste peace. He was also optimistic about the resumption of intra-afghan peace talks in Doha.

Then-President Hamid Karzai’s remarks come at a time when over 20 provinces are battlefields for heavy conflict between ANDSF and the Taliban fighters.
