The Kabul police has arrested several members of a dangerous criminal gang during a special operation conducted in the aftermath of the murder of a money exchanger.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials said the operation was conducted in northern Balkh province and was led by CID chief General Mohammad Salim Almas.

The officials further added that the gang had murdered a money exchanger in the vicinity of the 15th police district of the city few days earlier and had managed to flee to northern Balkh province.

The officials also added that further details regarding the gang will be released later.

This comes as there has been a sharp rise in criminal-related incidents in Kabul city and other key cities of the country during the recent years.

The observers believe the majority of such incidents have links to growing poverty in the country.

The CID officials said last week that Afghan security forces busted a key gang of criminals in capital Kabul amid ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal-related incidents from the key cities, including the Kabul city.

The officials further added that a criminal gang comprising of four people arrested during an operation from the 11th police district of the city.

According to the officials, the individuals were involved in robbery, burglary, and other types of criminal activities in the city.
