India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar met with his American counterpart Antonio Blinken to discuss Afghanistan’s situation along with other international and regional issues.
Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were in Washington for the 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue with their US counterparts Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defence Lloyd J Austin III.
The United States and India called on the Taliban to abide by the UN Security Council resolution which demands Afghanistan not be used again to threaten other countries’ security.
The four ministers in a joint statement urged the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to respect human rights, rights of women and girls, rights of minorities, and uphold rights to travel.
Jaishankar also met with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and discussed the situation of Afghanistan along with that of Myanmar and Ukraine.
