The United Nations Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan announced that Italy has contributed $3.1 million to various sectors in Afghanistan.

The fund disclosed this initial contribution from Italy to Afghanistan via its X page on Thursday, June 13.

The UN Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan emphasized that these funds will support efforts to empower women, address climate change, and provide durable solutions for refugees and returnees in the country.

Global aid contributions have increased in recent days following humanitarian needs and requests from international organizations to assist those in need in Afghanistan.

Previously, the UN Trust Fund for Afghanistan had reported Denmark’s $7.29 million contribution to the country.

The European Union has allocated approximately €125 million to humanitarian and relief organizations in Afghanistan to prevent famine risks.

According to the United Nations, nearly 25 million people in Afghanistan are in need of humanitarian aid.

It is worth noting that humanitarian needs in Afghanistan have increased due to the return of over one million Afghan migrants and recent floods in the country.
