Militants affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group suffered casualties during the air and ground operations conducted in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

The provincial government media office in a statement said a series of air and ground operations were conducted against the terror group in the past 24 hours in this province, leaving five militants dead and four others wounded.

The statement further added that the operations were conducted in the vicinity of Khogyani district of Nangahrar province and the dead bodies of at least two of the militants were also left in the area.

According to the Nangarhar government, at least four improvised explosive devices were also confiscated during the operations.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the ISIS terror group have not commented regarding the report so far.

This comes as a senior leader of the Taliban group was arrested during a night raid conducted by the Afghan Special Forces in the same district of Nangarhar.

The provincial government media office in a statement said at least four Taliban insurgents were also killed during the operation.

The statement further added that the operation was conducted late on Friday night in the vicinity of the restive Khogyani district.

According to the Nangarhar provincial government, at least seven other suspects were also rounded up during the operation.
