Militants affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group suffered casualties during clashes with the local residents in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan.

The 201st Silab Corps officials in the East said the clashes between ISIS militants and local residents broke out on Saturday in Suki district.

The officials further added that the residents of Chambil village started armed clashes with the ISIS militants due to unknown reasons.

According to Silab Corps officials, at least three ISIS militants were killed and two others were arrested alive during the clashes.

The residents of the village did not suffer any casualties during the clashes, the officials said, adding that additional contingent of police and armed forces were deployed in the area to push back the ISIS militants.

The anti-government armed militant groups including ISIS militants have not commented regarding the report so far.

Kunar, located in eastern parts of Afghanistan, borders the tribal regions of Pakistan and is home to several terrorist groups.

The Afghan Taliban insurgents as well as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group’s offshoot, ISIS Khorasan, operate in some of the restive districts of the province.
