Sanaullah Ghaffari, also known as Shahab al-Muhajar, reportedly ISIS-Khorasan (Daesh) branch leader is in Pakistan, according to Reuters.

Since assuming leadership in 2020, the 29-year-old has led the group in carrying out extreme attacks to recruit members, as reported by Reuters.

Little was known about Ghafari before the deadly 2021 ISIS attack on Kabul Airport, which killed 170 Afghan civilians and 13 American soldiers, according to the report.

After Friday’s deadly attack in a Moscow concert hall, which left 139 people dead, Ghaffari’s group faces scrutiny, says Reuters.

Ghaffari is reportedly involved in attacks in Afghanistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Pakistan, according to the report.

Despite Pakistani officials claiming Ghaffari’s death in Kunar province, Afghanistan, last year, Reuters reported he fled to Pakistan, residing in Baluchistan.

ISIS-K, also known as ISIS-Khorasan, has carried out several deadly attacks in Afghanistan, targeting both civilians and security forces. These attacks have caused significant loss of life and instability in the region.

The recent attack on the Kabul Bank office in Kandahar, leaving three dead and 12 wounded, underscores the persistent threat posed by ISIS-K in Afghanistan despite efforts to suppress the group’s activities.
