The First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum who is leading counter-terrorism operations in northern Faryab province has said a General of Pakistan’s power military intelligence – Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) was killed during the operations.
Gen. Dostum said the ISI General’s death who was fighting in the rank of the anti-government armed militants proves that the terrorism in Afghanistan stems from outside the borders of the country.
In an interview with the Radio Free Europe (RFE), Gen. Dostum said “Our fight in Ghormach, Bala Morghab, Qaisar and Almar districts is with Pakistan’s ISI. A General of ISI identified as Sheikh Haji who had chosen other names for him, was killed four days back after receiving a bullet in his left eye.”
Gen. Dostum further added that another senior Taliban leader who was the shadow minister of the group in border and tribal affairs was injured.
He said another Taliban leader from Uzbekistan who was identified as Qari Zabi was also killed.
According to Gen. Dostum, work on construction or ring road will be started with the conclusion of counter-terrorism operations in Faryab province.
He said a similar operation would be launched in the restive Kunduz province in the north once the operations in Faryab province is finished.
The operation in Faryab province is jointly being conducted by the Afghan National Army, Afghan National Police and Afghan Intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives.
