NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) denied the reports regarding the alleged death of two children during an airstrike in northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.
Local authorities in Badakshan province said two children were killed during an airstrike in Wardoj district on Sunday morning.
Dawlat Mohammad khawar, district chief for Wardoj earlier also confirmed that an airstrike was carried out in Ghachan area to eliminate Taliban militants from the area.
However ISAF said, “ISAF conducted a precision strike against a Taliban leader in Badakshan who was responsible for attacks against the ANSF. The Taliban have alleged that ISAF killed two children during this strike. It is not true.”
“ISAF has done a thorough review of the circumstances, to include a detailed review of the video from the aircraft. No children were present during this engagement,” ISAF said adding that Government officials in Badakshan Province have been informed.
Badakhshan is among the peaceful province in northeastern Afghanistan however Taliban militants have recently increased their insurgency activities in a number of its districts specifically in Wardoj district.
Afghan and coalition security forces have launched a number of military operations to eliminate militants activities.
