Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of making incorrect assessments over developments in the region, warning that Washington could face a more serious miscalculation over the Strait of Hormuz.

Araghchi made the comments in a post on X, saying weaknesses in the collection and assessment of information had contributed to what he described as wrong US decisions. He said the problem was also reflected in Washington’s approach to Iran.

The Iranian foreign minister said the situation around the Strait of Hormuz represented an even more serious potential miscalculation for the United States.

Araghchi also distinguished between what he called “fake news” and “fake information,” arguing that inaccurate intelligence could have more serious consequences for decision-making.

He did not identify specific US intelligence assessments or decisions in the statement provided.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime routes for energy shipments, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman. Tensions around the waterway can have wider implications for regional security, shipping and energy markets.

Araghchi’s remarks come as relations between Tehran and Washington remain strained by broader political and security disputes. His comments reflect Iran’s official position that US assessments of regional developments and its policies toward Tehran have been based on flawed calculations.
