The Iranian forces have shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle belonging to U.S. Navy, the U.S. officials said.

The MQ-4C Triton drone was flying in international airsprace over the Strait of Hormuz when it was shot down.

A U.S. official confirmed to ABC News that the Iranian forces shot down the unarmed drone using a surface to air missile.

This comes as Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had earlier said that the drone was shot down soon after it entered the Iranian airspace.
