Afghan interior ministry officials on Sunday announced to take strict measures in a bid to prevent misuse and breach of the traffic rules by Afghan police vehicles.

Interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi said the interior ministry is looking to reduce traffic incidents caused by Afghan police.

According to reports at least 50 traffic incidents have been recorded during the last three months where Afghan police vehicles were involved.

This comes as the Afghan civilians expressed concerns regarding over speed drive by Afghan police in the highways and streets of Afghanistan.

Residents in capital Kabul said major traffic incidents are taking place by Afghan police vehicles where the drivers are not respecting the traffic rules and regulations.

Interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi said all those police officers who do not pay attention to traffic rules and becomes the reason for a traffic incident will face financial charges and will be dismissed form their duties.

A team has been set up to monitor the driving of Afghan police forces in main cities of Afghanistan, Mr. Sediq said adding that the new team will help to prevent major traffic incidents caused by Afghan police.

In a latest traffic incident capital Kabul chief of the presidential policy department Sebghatullah Sebghat was killed along with his brother and daughter after his vehicle was hit by a military vehicle.

He was the most senior personality who became the victim of traffic incidents incidents caused by a military officer.
