A Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737 commercial airplane, carrying 62 people lost contact with the traffic controller, four minutes after taking off on a domestic flight on Saturday.

 Fishermen are said to have found debris suspected to belong to the airplane.

Reuters report, Agus Haryono a search and rescue member at Basarnas agency said that the suspected pieces of metal from a plane have been found in the waters near the shore, but so far it is not confirmed whether the parts belong to the missing flight or not.

The Sriwijaya Air flight SJ182 went missing over the Java Sea shortly after taking off, Indonesian Transportation Ministry spokesperson Adita Irawati told media.

A total of 62 passengers including 12 crews were on board when Boeing 737-500 went missing, the plane can carry up to 130 passengers according to Irawati.

The plane was routed to Pontianak, Capital of Indonesian Kalimantan province, the flight was expected to take a total of 90 minutes.

Flighradar24, an independent tracking service tweeted, “Sriwijaya Air flight SJ182 lost more than 10.000 feet of altitude in less than one minute, about 4 minutes after departure from Jakarta”.

There are different sightings by the fishermen as some say they found metal objects believed to be part of the plane and some even claimed they have seen a fiery explosion in midair.

Indonesian media footages show relatives and close friends of people who were on the board of the place praying, weeping, and hugging one another as they wait for a clear explanation by the officials in Jakarta and Pontianak airports.
