insider attackAn individual in Afghan army uniform opened fire on coalition security forces early Thursday morning, defense officials said.

Gen. Zahir Azimi, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense (MoD), said the incident took place around 6:50 am local time.

He did not disclose further information regarding the exact location of the incident, but confirmed that foreign forces did not suffer any casualties.

Gen. Azimi further added that the assailant individual was arrested by Afghan national army soldiers.

This comes as a high-ranking US General was killed following an insider attack by an individual in Afghan army uniform in Kabul military academy earlier in August.

The deceased American general was recognized as major general Harold Greene who was the highest-ranked American officer killed in combat in the nation’s post-911 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to US officials.

At least 15 people including a German and two Afghan generals were also injured following the attack which took place at Marshal Fahim National Defence University.
